Welcome to the fourth edition of your B & B for 2004.
From the executive:

It was remiss of me not to report in the August B&B that the executive has finalized the complete revision of the OBU constitution. It has been updated to reflect the present intent of the OBU and shortened. Many thanks go to John Chippendale for his assistance in this project. The revised draft is available to those on e-mail by replying to Larry. A few hard copies will be available at the 2004 Dinner for your perusal prior to a vote on its adoption.
The new constitution provides for annual elections and for simplicity it is intended to amalgamate this process with the annual Dinner. To facilitate the election process, enclosed is a nomination form. The current committee is standing for re-election with the exception of Mark Sinclair whose stand-in period as Secretary has expired. It would be most useful if anyone nominating for this position takes into account the preference for someone with internet access and who is computer friendly.

OBU Dinner (Last chance):

The OBU Annual Mass and Dinner will be held on Thursday 4 November. Please let us know if you are attending by filling out the attached form. Mass will commence at 6pm at St Patrick’s followed by dinner at the Bowlers Club. Thank you to those who have already sent their notice of attendance. Numbers are as yet light on but I am hopeful of at least matching 2003.
At this year’s dinner we will be making a presentation cheque to Br David Hall of Marist Missions who will also represent the Provincial, Br John Thompson. Br David will speak to us about the great work being carried on in the name of St Marcellin Champagnat in less fortunate Pacific countries.

From the Editor:

Congratulations to the former Darlo teachers Br Norman Hart, Br Joseph McCabe (Bonaventure) and Br Greg Moran (Athanasius) who celebrated their jubilees this year. Great pictures in the August edition of the Marist Family News. We hope to see them all at the dinner this year.
When checking the spelling of Br Greg’s old persona in my copy of the 1956 B&B (he taught me in 3rd class!), I noticed a fine picture of Warren Eggins, a Commonwealth Scholarship winner the previous year. Warren will be at the dinner again this year.
Also in the Marist News is Br Michael Naughtin (Darlo teacher 46-50 & Headmaster 51-54) who was awarded he OAM for services to secondary education and as a teacher and administrator. Br Michael has spent the last 43 years at St Josephs’ College where he has taught Latin, English and Classical Greek. Br Michael attended our annual luncheon in July and will be at the Dinner in November to catch up with former students.
