Blue & Blue - August 2008
Welcome to the latest edition of your B & B in 2008.
From the executive:
- The big event coming up is the unveiling of the two Honour Boards, recognizing those Darlo old boys who served in WW2, at Marist College Canberra in Pearce, ACT. This will occur on Friday 12th Sep. We need to spread the news so that as many of those old boys and their families and families of those no longer with us can attend the unveiling if they wish. Marist Pearce is putting on a whole morning program for those of us who can make it and it would be fitting if we had a good role up. Details of the unveiling are below.
- Ronda Boyd, sister of old boy, Norm Timbrell, (Darlo 35-39) has done all the work to identify over 1,100 names of those who served and arranged the production of the Boards at a cost of around $13,000. Ronda and her son have donated a substantial amount and Department of Veterans Affairs has contributed as well. The OBU executive has also decided to allocate $2,000 to assist. Any donations from OBU members would help defray the deficit, which stands at a few thousand dollars.
- The OBU Mass and Dinner planning is well underway and details will be in the next issue of the B&B. Mark your diaries now for Thursday, 6 Nov. We will be moving away from the venue of last year due to the noise factor. Your executive is constantly experimenting at city venues (and trying the local fare) in an endeavour to have only the best for OBU members.
- The donation to the John Berne School approved at our last AGM has been received by the school and overleaf is an acknowledgement from the Principal, Br Darren Burge which will be of interest to members. The executive thanks you again for your generous support for these Marist causes. Darlo remains relevant in 2008 some 40 years after closing of the High School! You should all be rightly proud of your OBU.
- We are running a little short of news for the next edition of the B&B so please get your copy in to us asap.
