Marist Brothers Darlinghurst

~ Inner Sanctum ~

Marist Brothers High School Darlinghurst Old Boys’ Union is a non-political entity but a fierce defender of human rights.

For some, the video accompanying this poem may be seen as political when presented with a “Republic of Australia” introduction. For that reason it resides within the Inner Sanctum, however, others feel that it’s an inalienable right to define oneself – one’s country being an extension of that, so the link to that video is enclosed   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrN53rVWnXk&feature=youtu.be  for you to decide.

I come from Australia, I wear my regalia,
Its burning love, of this land, my home

Today, I walk free, because of blood, shed for me
By heroes, who laid down, their lives
Defenders they were; defenders they are
their legacy, our freedom, survives

I’m proud of my nation with one’s right to speak
As revered, as the high, mountain peak
Acceptance of people, all colours all creeds
Judged only, by one’s deeds

A Mabo, MacKellar, a black or white fellow
We’re equal here under the sun
I’m Aussie blood blest, taught give it my best
Our philosophy, in one.

A Mabo, MacKellar, a black or white fellow
We’re equal here under the sun
I’m Aussie blood blest, taught give it my best
Our philosophy, in one.

My spirit soars free with God’s gift to me
Born of this nation, so free
the oceans and plains sing our refrains
Sharing this all, pure liberty

To talk of our mountains, surrounded by sea
Is something blessed to me,
Snow mountain reaches; golden sand beaches,
Parched lands; where so much heartache can be

Serenity’s found, under willows that round
flooding waters, soaking, parched plains
A solitary gum, vibrates to the sum
Of a hundred roos on the run

Beautiful sounds, a waterfall pounds
On a glistening rockface below
Droplets just beckon; come rest your mind
Nature’s pillow below.

I come from Australia, I wear my regalia,
Its burning love, Its burning love
of this land, my home.
